Out of near-darkness, a bloom of fire: sweeping arcs of vermilion, orange and molten gold curl around a pale, quiet heart, while streaks of steel blue flicker at the edges like sparks carried on night air. Adelaja paints with urgency here — broad, wet strokes that read as both flame and flower, as if something is being born and consumed in the same moment. Small and intense, the work rewards close looking: it is a held breath, a fire deciding whether to spread. Painted by hand in oil on canvas, this is the only version of this work that exists.
